General membership meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month from September through June, usually at Concordia Lutheran High School (click here for map & directions). The December and June meetings include pot lucks, and are held at members' homes.
If you are not yet a Guild member but would like to attend a meeting as our guest, please join us! You may contact a member or officer ahead of time, or just show up and introduce yourself.

Program: "What I did on my summer vacation" ~ Members, please bring one or two pieces you've created using one or more techniques or ideas inspired by last year's programs by Lynn Diamente, Marilyn Umber, Linda Binek, Sharon Stolzenberger, and Lisa Ransom Smith. Please be ready to introduce yourself and talk a bit about how what you saw and heard at FWAG affected or inspired your new work.

Program: FWAG President Ron Snyder will demonstrate how he combines pyrography (wood burning, but on watercolor paper in Ron's case) and watercolor to produce unique "pyrocolor" paintings. (No, that's not really Ron!)

Program: Artist and teacher Lisa Ransom Smith is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America known for her colorful, impressionistic landscape paintings. She spoke about color, including the use and abuse of black and white, using the color wheel to maintain vibrant colors, and the color of shadows. She concluded with a pastel demonstration. Where: Concordia Lutheran High School
Program: Sharon Stolzenberger demonstrated her technique for "Painting Animals/Wildlife/Pets in Watercolor" featuring a wet-into-wet approach. Sharon talked about studying animals, using photographic references, and sketching from life. Stolzenberger's work has won numerous awards and has been featured in several books and magazines. Sharon will be offering two one-day workshops in Fort Wayne on March 19 & 20. February 18, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Concordia Lutheran High School
Program: Linda Binek demonstrated how to create a "texture sheet painting," the technique she used to create the understory or beginning of "Recycle the Forest," her Best of Show at Fort Wayne Artists Guild's 2008 Ventures in Creativity juried show. Ms. Binek showed examples of other paintings created using the same method, which can be used for all painting media.
Business Meeting: Discussion and preliminary vote on proposed by-laws amendments.
January FWAG members Marilyn Umber spoke about the ins and outs of selecting and entering shows throughout the country. Ms. Umber, known for her radiant watercolor paintings, has won numerous awards at juried shows throughout the United States.
2008
November Award-winning watercolor and mixed-media artist Lynn Diamente, a FWAG member, spoke and demonstrated various techniques. Ms. Diamente is known for her use of rich color, impressionist realism, and depth; she enjoys working both traditionally and abstractly. Foster Park -- lots to choose from here: gardens, river, kids playing, .... Hot, but lovely, evening ~ the gardens were gorgeous!

Ron & Deb Snyder's lovely place in Huntertown! All sorts of things to pain --


pond, waterlilies, cattails, fields, pavilian, Ron.... We had a great time.
July 2:
Salomon Farm -- beautiful fields, lovely pond, big barns, people walking, goats


and sheep.... It was nice and cool -- great fun!
July 16
Downie's Daylily Garden -- this is a spectacular field of daylilies! There are also


beds of perennials, but the lilies absolutely sparkle.
Aug 27
Freimann Square ~ very nice urban setting with gardens, fountain, interesting


buildings.... And since this is our last meeting, why not have a little apres art


outing at one of the nearby outdoor restaurants?

Another Plein Air Opportunity!
IPFW's annual Garden Walk is June 27 at the Purdue Extension building. The master gardeners are very interested in having Guild members in plein air from 6-8 p.m. Be there by 5:30 to set up, or set up earlier in the day. The parking lot will be closed; parking in the garage across the street. You may drop your equipment at the curb (there will be a guard). This should be a lot of fun ~ the gardens are beautiful. contact Roddy Dammeyer (rodkadamm@hotmail.com or 486-5136) if you plan to participate.
